How to: change up your child’s lunch

Los Angeles, Ca, – Lunch for your kids can be as simple as one change.  What is that change you ask? The answer is the bread. If your children are like mine they have a protein, vegetable and cheese they love and won’t eat anything else accept they constantly say they’re tired of their lunch.  Sigh…it can feel so frustrating. I want to say try chicken salad or prosciutto and arugula, but alas I met with a “yuck, no way!” So the option that works for both of us is to change the bread.

Bread List:

Here are the breads that are welcomed with open arms at my house:

  • Challah
  • Brioche
  • Tortillas
  • Wheat bread
  • Potato bread
  • Buttermilk bread
  • White bread
  • This Sarah lee bread
  • English muffins
  • Bagels
  • Mini bagels
  • Thin bagels
  • Pita bread
  • Naan bread
  • Mediterranean bread (thicker and softer than pita)
  • Hot dog buns
  • Mini seedless hamburger buns
  • Pretzels (wrap the meat & cheese around a large pretzel stick)
  • Bread sticks (wrap meat around the stick)
  • Hawaiian buns (sweeter than normal bread, a great size and very soft)
How do you make bread work when it goes stale so quickly?

Buy 3-5 different types of bread then remove the pieces you need in order to make sandwiches during the week and freeze the rest either as a whole or separate them into weekly serving sizes.

How do you get your kids on board for new bread?
  • Tell them it’s coming.
  • Let them taste it ahead of time with no pressure either way.  (if they don’t like it you can always turn it into French toast or bread pudding)
  • Show them pictures of various types of breads and let them guide you on which bread to try.

By the way in case you are wondering the photos are made with ham and mustard.

We are listening to your feedback and want to provide you with great options. Please let us know your thoughts and if you have an IDEA please share.
